Our Mission

Parenting and educating a child with special needs can be a challenging and sometimes an overwhelming responsibiity. Just identifying a child's special needs and finding the right services and supports to meet those needs can be difficult and time-consuming.

Stepping Stones NH seeks to provide the parents of children with disabilities and the professionals who work with them the information and resources they need to support the educational, social and emotional development and well-being of the very special children they care so much about.

A letter from the New Hampshire Developmental Disabilities Council

Published: July 09, 2007

Dear Stepping Stones NH Readers:

I would like to welcome you to our third publication of Stepping Stones NH. In the last three years my life has become richer by each story I read and each article presented. I have gained a lot of respect for the sponsors and advertisers, for they really have shown their dedication to all New Hampshire citizens. On behalf of our sponsors, advertisers and writers of Stepping Stones NH, I would like to welcome you.

Every year I get more and more excited when working on Stepping Stones. Last year in San Diego, while attending the National Conference on Developmental Disabilities, the council chairperson and I met and spoke with Dr. Morrissey, Federal Commissioner of Health and Human Services. We gave her a copy of Stepping Stones NH; she read an article, put the magazine on her lap and said, "I think I'm going to cry. People in this country need to hear more stories of support." The state of New Hampshire was well represented at that moment.

Stepping Stones NH is a publication for families, individuals and professionals who are interested in true quality of life for people with disabilities and other health concerns. Some stories in Stepping Stones NH this year looks at bullying, People First Language and true inclusion.

We hope you will find Stepping Stones NH helpful and inspiring. I would love to hear from people regarding stories and ideas for future publications. My e-mail is david.l.ouellette@ddc.nh.gov.

Sincerely,
